The new generation of journalists are more concerned about being allowed access to the White House and see their role as explaining the point of view of power, whereas old school journalists were more focused on patriotism and reporting the news regardless of access. The newer journalists often socialize with the people they report on and struggle with the idea of not being allowed behind the rope line, whereas the traditional journalists believed in reporting without needing proximity to power.
