Chickens used to be insectivores, feeding on bugs found in pastures, which resulted in a healthier ratio of omega six fats to omega three fats in their flesh. However, modern organic chickens are fed organic corn and soybeans, leading to a skewed ratio of 25 parts omega six to one part omega three. This dietary shift has significantly altered the nutritional value of chickens, making them more similar to an ear of corn with feathers rather than their original insect-eating selves.
