The Hawthorne Effect and its applications for improving dietary decision-making

Performance bias is a significant problem in prospective studies. The Hawthorne effect suggests that people change their behavior when someone is watching them. Even simply logging what you eat can cause behavior change. Having someone monitor your every meal can be an effective dietary intervention. The impact is even greater when you are uncomfortable with the person monitoring. This effect is similar to the Avis effect, where Avis was always behind Hertz in the past.
