eBay's market cap has had a rollercoaster journey. It started at a couple of billion dollars, went up to 25 billion, dropped to 7 billion during the dot-com crash, reached 77 billion in 2004, and now sits at around 23 billion. Despite going up and down, buying and divesting PayPal, eBay's market cap is still only around 150th of Amazon's. It's surprising that Amazon ultimately surpassed eBay, but it's a testament to the long-term alignment between customer experience and shareholder value.
