People with depression often have difficulty thinking positively about their future./nWaking up consistently at 230 or 330 in the morning without being able to fall back asleep is a common symptom of depression./nLack of sleep, lack of anticipation of a positive future, and inability to imagine the future in a positive way are key features of a major depressive episode./nThe preclinical model of learned helplessness is used to test different drugs and their effects on animals./nAnimals injected with low dosages of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, were able to swim for longer periods of time./nKetamine, an NMDA receptor blocker, had surprising effects on the animals in the study.
