The Mystery of Irreversibility in Physics and the Role of Computation

The irreversibility of the behavior we observe in the universe has been a mystery in physics. One solution is that the laws themselves are irreversible, while another is that the Big Bang was a unique low entropy state. In the case of gas molecules bouncing around in a box, the positions of the molecules become effectively encrypted, making it difficult for us to notice the reversibility. Our ability to observe things is computationally bounded, which adds to the phenomenon. When we make observations, we aggregate the details together. Overall, the interplay between computational irreducibility and our limited ability to observe contributes to the irreversible behavior we perceive.
