Apologetics in Higher Education: A War Zone for Minds and Souls
Why Do You Believe?
Equipping Faith in Academia
The evangelical church requires robust philosophical and intellectual backing to counter the prevalent trend of Christian youth leaving the faith upon entering college. A significant number of students feel unarmed against opposing worldviews, as professors often provide rational arguments rather than simply advocating faith. There is a pressing need for individuals to effectively articulate the rational basis for Christianity, moving beyond personal experiences to evidence-based reasoning. This aligns with biblical and common-sense directives for defending one's faith. Educators must prepare themselves for challenging discussions and be equipped to handle frequently recurring questions through strategic questioning techniques. Instead of immediately countering arguments, the focus should be on prompting the questioner to substantiate their claims, as many underlying assumptions need to be uncovered. This method allows for a deeper exploration of critical topics like the theory of evolution, emphasizing the distinction between observed facts and the inferences drawn from them.
