NOTE

Importance of Reforming the Connections Process

The current non-discriminatory system for new connections in the energy sector, where projects are treated in order of application, leads to issues when dealing with a variety of project sizes and readiness levels. This approach can result in a backlog of speculative projects, causing a vicious cycle of perceived scarcity. Reforming the connections process to prioritize projects that are ready for development, with permits, financing, off-take agreements, and land access, is crucial. Shifting to a 'first ready first served' system would ensure efficient use of available capacity and prevent unnecessary delays caused by unprepared projects blocking the way for others.
