CAN MACHINES REPLACE US? (AI vs Humanity) - Maria Santacaterina

NOTE

The Importance of Representationalism in AI

Replicating human intelligence in AI is challenging, as relying solely on creating an agent with a big brain and general intelligence is flawed. The concept of representationalism, viewing humans as isolated entities, hinders progress in AI research. Embracing externalism and collective intelligence, which considers the complex ecology we exist in, offers a more promising approach. While recreating human intelligence in a simulation remains a question, the idea of considering all components external to an agent as cognizing elements in the ecology is crucial. Furthermore, physicists argue for a continuum between inanimate objects and living things, challenging traditional boundaries. The discussions on teleology and teleonomy add depth to understanding the purpose and behavior of intelligent agents.
