Randomized trials among individuals with a history of cardiovascular disease revealed a modest reduction in coronary events but minimal impact on stroke. This led to a significant interest in primary prevention studies targeting individuals without previous heart issues, assessing the potential benefits of moderate Omega-3 intake on cardiovascular outcomes and other health conditions. The Vital trial, which tested one gram per day of EPA and DHA, has expanded into analyzing various ancillary outcomes beyond cardiovascular health, including cognition and depression.
