i think that a somewhat slavish and oftentimes thoughtless devotion to talking about things with respect to averages has led us to a place where we worry about relative rates of white poverty and black poverty, as if any individual person facing poverty in america, their circumstances are worsened or better because some greater proportion of people who happen to look like them isn't or is impoverished as well. And there's just something that strikes me as obviously absurd about that. In all our efforts to do good, like the pendulum is just swung in a really weird direction that makes it impossibl for us to have serious conversations about these things. i would invite you, adam or thomas, to
