The traditional approach of using a few sophisticated, expensive monitors in selected locations has shifted to monitoring variations at a neighborhood or street level, allowing for targeted interventions. The integration of low-cost sensors, which were not available a decade ago, is being advocated to complement existing monitoring networks. Despite initial doubts about data quality, significant progress has been made in understanding the strengths and limitations of these sensors.
