Key Points on Lymphoma and Diagnosing Vanishing Lesions
Lymphoma, a relatively rare condition, is discussed in this interesting paper. It highlights that the brain is not the only immune privileged organ; the eye and testis are also important. It advises using an ultrasound to scan the testis in men with suspected systemic lymphoma. The paper also introduces the 'notch sign' as a characteristic feature of rapidly growing lymphomas. Furthermore, it emphasizes that CSF alone rarely provides a diagnosis and biopsy remains crucial. Additionally, the phenomenon of vanishing lesions in lymphoma is explored, with half of cases being related to primary lymphoma and the other half to tumefactive demyelination, neurosarcoid, or vasculitis. The paper concludes by introducing the legal term 'argumentum ad forteori' to describe the need for further investigation when a lesion disappears.
