The History of the Osage Headwrites

A historian named Tara tells the history of Osage Headwrites. In the 1870s, the Osage settled in rocky land in northern Oklahoma, thinking non-Indians wouldn't want it. During this time, the government aimed to assimilate Native Americans into white culture. In 1887, the Dawes Act changed land ownership for Native Americans. The Osage had more leverage as they had purchased their land. Despite government pressure, the tribe secured important rights.
