Ep. 29 – Philosophy of the Tao

Alan Watts Being in the Way

NOTE

The Indefinable Nature of Tao and Self

Tao, the fundamental essence of nature, cannot be defined or spoken about. The Tao is the basic energy of the universe and represents one's true self, which cannot be grasped or defined. Any concept of the self as a separate ego is false, as the real self transcends any classification or description, falling into the realm of the metaphysical. Just as one cannot bite their own teeth or grasp their own hand, the true self eludes any attempt to objectify or define it. Consciousness, like the transparent lens of the eye, is invisible itself but enables the perception of all experiences without being isolatable or definable.
