A massive solar flare could potentially destroy all power supplies on Earth and in outer space, leading to the collapse of civilization. Similar events have occurred in the past, such as the Carrington event in 1859. Evidence from tree rings and Arctic ice cores suggest disturbances in 700 and 800 AD. Although there were no blackouts then due to the lack of electricity, a similar event now would have catastrophic consequences.
