The narrator had a Mormon best friend named Brett Jarvis who had a positive influence on his life. The Jarvis family played a significant role in guiding him and preventing him from going down a bad path. Unfortunately, the father and oldest brother passed away, and on the way to the service, another brother collapsed and died. Despite these losses, the narrator fondly remembers the impact the Jarvis family had on his life and expresses love for Mormons. The conversation turns to the topic of attending church, and the narrator recalls spending time in church as a child but eventually becoming skeptical of organized religion.
