Urgent Need for Drastic Reduction in Fossil Energy and Increase in Renewables

The current emission path and fossil energy usage must be drastically reduced immediately to align with reducing emissions. The share of natural gas needs to decline while renewable energy sources and storage technologies need to be significantly increased. It is crucial to act urgently due to the advanced stage of emission increase and the energy transition path. Instead of relying on fossil fuels like natural gas as a bridge technology, the focus should be on increasing renewable energy options. The US, and globally, should prioritize discussions on renewables rather than nuclear or natural gas. However, the challenge lies in the political difficulties in building long-distance transmission lines to stabilize a renewable-heavy grid, primarily due to state authority and limited federal control.
