The Office for National Statistics collects prices every month from a virtual basket of goods and services typically purchased by households, including bread, gas, electricity, and holidays./nAround 180,000 price quotes are collected for approximately 730 goods and services each month by close to 300 people in 141 different UK locations./nAt the end of the day or week, prices are sent to the Office for National Statistics which calculates the average prices of goods and determines inflation rates by comparing them to previous months and years.
