#68 Daniel Kahneman: Putting Your Intuition on Ice

The Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish

NOTE

Delaying Intuition for Better Decisions

When making decisions, think of options as candidates, break them into dimensions, evaluate each dimension separately, focus on the separate points, delay intuition, and wait until the whole profile is formed before allowing intuition. Rapid intuitions are not particularly good, so delaying intuition until more information is available leads to better decisions. This can be achieved by focusing on separate problems and dimensions independently, without allowing final judgments or deal breakers too early. Waiting until the end allows for a clearer understanding of trade-offs.
