Challenges in Amending the Constitution
The virtue of the Constitution lies in its capacity for revision, but the current system hinders the amendment process due to political polarization. The framers intended to make it easier to amend the Constitution compared to the Articles of Confederation, which required unanimous agreement of the states. However, the current requirement of two-thirds of both houses of Congress and three-fourths of the states for an amendment is challenging in today's polarized political climate. The rise of originalist perspectives in the Supreme Court further emphasizes the urgency for the ability to change the Constitution through amendment.
