The Convergence of Research Areas. Convergance > Divergance > Convergance.
In the near term, there is convergence in research directions, with companies doing similar things. However, in the longer term, there will be some divergence as companies branch off into different areas. Once the longer term work starts to grow, there will be convergence again as companies find the most promising area. The publishing of research is currently reduced, so it will take longer for promising directions to be rediscovered. Overall, the pattern is expected to be convergence, divergence, and then convergence again.
