NOTE

Evolution of Biotechnics: Cut and Paste

The evolution of biotechnics in the 70s, 80s, and 90s enabled the transfer of genes across species through a cut and paste mechanism. This process involved moving genes between different organisms to create beneficial traits, such as producing insulin in microbes or pest-resistant crops. However, the process was limited to specific insertion points, and in plants, genes were randomly inserted using a gene gun, akin to compiling code into memory randomly. Despite the rudimentary nature of this technique, billion-dollar industries were built on this 'installing code at random' approach.
