Understanding the Role of GPUs in AI Algorithms

AI algorithms run on chips called AI accelerators, which are similar to graphics chips. These chips, known as GPUs, are very good at processing a large number of math operations in a short period of time. They can perform over 100,000 instructions per cycle, making them extremely powerful. GPUs are used in servers located in data centers, where they handle the actual computation. GPUs differ from CPUs in their degree of parallelization, allowing them to handle certain workloads more effectively. Additionally, GPUs work with vectors and tensors instead of individual values. Google calls their version of these chips TPUs.
