Another Mechanism for Glucose Uptake: Non-Insulin-Mediated Process

The human body has a fascinating mechanism for glucose uptake in cells. In addition to insulin, there is a non-insulin-mediated glucose uptake process. By contracting muscles, a message is sent inside cells, causing glucose transporters to translocate to the cell wall and act as gateways for glucose entry. This mechanism works in everyone, including those with prediabetes, insulin resistance, and type 1 diabetes. It is a backup generator for glucose uptake and does not require insulin.
