Cognitive dissonance is a state of tension that occurs when a person's beliefs or actions are in conflict./nIt can be caused by a situation that is plausible but not true, or by a situation that is true but not believable./nThe conditions that typically produce cognitive dissonance are that a person has to deeply believe something, take an irreversible action, and the belief needs to be specific and grounded in a possible reality.
