Debunking the Myth: Do We Really Use Only 10% of Our Brain?
As a cognitive psychologist, I often get asked about the myth that humans only use 10% of their brain. In reality, we use all of our brain all of the time. The brain is an energy-hungry organ, using 20-25% of our daily energy supply. Early neuroscientists believed that only a small portion of brain cells are actively engaged in thinking, while the rest are support staff. However, this does not mean that the majority of our brain is unused. The myth may also stem from the fact that compared to body size, most beings don't have large brains due to the high energy requirements. So, the idea that we only use a small percentage of our brain is simply not true.
