Progressives: Combining Progressivism, Collectivism, and Conservative Attitudes

Progressives of the past shared values with both the modern left and right. They rejected individualism and favored collective attitudes towards the common good. They used state power to help lower class individuals and stood against unchecked capitalism and political corruption. However, progressives also held conservative attitudes towards religion and social behavior. They were a homogeneous, middle class, white Protestant group. Prohibition and early race science were among their interests.
