NOTE

Quality Over Quantity in Alerts

Alert fatigue occurs when an overwhelming number of notifications leads to desensitization, causing critical alerts to be ignored. In one instance, a team received nearly a thousand alerts weekly for 80 microservices, managed by only three individuals. This excessive volume of alerts made it impossible to focus on what truly mattered, prompting the team to test the importance of these notifications. By deliberately disabling over half of the alerts, they discovered that many were unnecessary, as more than 50% went unremarked upon when silenced. This highlights the essential practice of prioritizing fewer, meaningful alerts rather than allowing a flood of notifications, which can lead to complacency and inattention.
