Fiction and fact are not opposites; they are forms of abstraction that can be as real or even more real than physical things. Numbers, considered more real by some mathematicians than physical objects, illustrate the power of abstraction. Numeracy, an abstract concept, can provide more power than knowledge of individual facts. In this light, fiction, being an abstraction, can be seen as a form of reality just like physical objects.
