The Impact of Wealth-Inequality & Social Media on Happiness
The level of wealth inequality has drastically and detrimentally changed in the 21st century, with the top 1% accumulating an extreme amount of wealth compared to the rest of society. This is a far cry from the 1950s, where wealth inequality was relatively low, and people felt content with their small homes and low incomes because they were similar to their peers. Social media has exacerbated the problem, creating an algorithmically-curated list of the most extravagant displays of wealth, further distorting people's perceptions of success and anchoring it to material possessions. It's a complete 180 from the values of the 1950s.
