Understanding the Difference Between Acute Stress and Chronic Stress
Stress can be defined as a difference between acute stress and chronic stress. Under normal circumstances, we function in resilient mode governed by the prefrontal cortex, responsible for executive functions. Acute stress triggers the amygdala, leading to the fight or flight response, a mechanism beneficial for managing acute threats. However, in modern times, chronic stress from ongoing issues like financial troubles and relationships keeps the fight or flight response constantly active, leading to burnout. Unlike acute stress, chronic stress does not allow for rest or recharge, resulting in the detrimental effects of constant stress.
