The self-referee thing and spirit of the game thing is such a huge part of the game. So when you remove it it's like removing the spirit of the games. I think observers for example is a really good balanced way to have some kind of impartial person without changing the way the game is played. The moment you have a referee then you've encouraged people to go as close to the line as possible, he says.
