The speaker's parents left Lebanon in 1972 due to the escalating civil war that would claim a quarter of a million lives. Growing up, the speaker witnessed the impact of the war through his parents watching TV, although they rarely spoke about it. The speaker, despite being curious about their past, respected his parents' reluctance to revisit the painful memories of Lebanon.
