Anthropologist Carol and Flora Labren initially felt conflicted between her cultural understanding of moral values and the concept of universal human rights.
She later decided to advocate for women's rights in Africa, recognizing a moral agenda beyond her own culture.
However, she acknowledged the lack of authority Westerners have to impose their concept of rights on other cultures.
Despite her cultural relativistic background, she chose to believe in universal human rights as a moral absolute and act accordingly, due to repressive governments using relativistic arguments to deflect international criticism.
