Consumer startups should start with a niche
Pre-product market fit is about solving a problem that the current state of things is not serving well. After that, it's about the durability of the solution. Rising above the noise and intersecting a narrow enough set of people who have a bigger problem is crucial. It is better to focus on a smaller niche set of consumers in the early days, which can evolve into something more universally applicable later on.
