Understanding Sleep: Phases and the Perfect Night's Sleep

A perfect night's sleep consists of four states: non-REM stage 1, stage 2, deep slow-wave sleep, and REM sleep. These stages are crucial for brain cleaning and restoration. We cycle through these stages every 90 minutes, with the first REM period occurring about 95 minutes after falling asleep. For a perfect night's sleep, aim for seven and a half to eight hours.
