The use of a working memory extender, such as a text file on a desktop, allows for the temporary expansion of information retention capacity. By using this system, individuals can jot down and organize information that exceeds their capacity to remember, such as meeting notes, action items from emails, and scheduling tasks. This external system serves as a durable, constantly resetting repository for additional information beyond what one's own memory can hold.

One of the more important abilities to cultivate for the year ahead is comfort learning complicated (and therefore valuable) new things. In this episode, Cal tackles the myths surrounding mastery and presents a new mental model for internalizing non-trivial information.
