The rush to capture attention led to a societal crisis with social media, resulting in addiction, distraction, and polarization. Now, the focus has shifted towards rapid AI deployment, where the urgency to introduce AI technologies and onboard users quickly risks exacerbating these issues. This highlights a critical need for careful consideration of the implications of AI, especially regarding its potential to magnify existing social harms.

It’s been a year and half since Tristan and Aza laid out their vision and concerns for the future of artificial intelligence in The AI Dilemma.
