NOTE

Mark Zuckerberg Explains What Mixed Reality Is

Mixed reality represents the combination of the physical world with virtual objects. Unlike virtual reality, which immerses users in a fully digital environment, mixed reality allows users to see the world around them and overlay digital objects on top of it. In the long term, augmented reality glasses are the goal, allowing users to see the real world with digital holograms integrated into it. Currently, mixed reality devices use pass-through cameras to capture the outside world in high resolution and color, while rendering virtual objects through the device's graphics pipeline. This technology enables users to have a virtual workstation with multiple monitors, controlled by physical keyboards and mice. Although the current mixed reality devices are not perfect, they represent the best version available and are a stepping stone towards future advancements in the field. The development of mixed reality will lead to various use cases, such as solo productivity and hybrid meetings, where some participants are physically present, while others join virtually as avatars.
