The Kishnev Pogram: Anti-Jewish Riots and Massacre in 1903
After the first kishnev pogrom, the New York Times reported that the anti-Jewish riots were horrific. Led by priests, the mob chanted 'kill the Jews' and attacked unsuspecting Jews. 120 were killed and 500 injured. The scenes of horror were indescribable, with babies torn apart. The local police did nothing to stop the terror. This was only what the censors allowed to be published. After more riots and revolutions in Russia, pogroms intensified. The city of Odessa saw a bloodbath. Tensions between Jews and others in the Russian Empire were supercharged by labor unrest and revolution.
