American power faces significant limitations in resolving complex existential conflicts in the Middle East, where parties such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Israeli settlers hold deeply entrenched positions that differ fundamentally from past conflicts. Unlike the 1970s, where objectives were more circumscribed, the current situation reflects a struggle characterized by overarching goals of destruction and dominance, making traditional resolutions increasingly unattainable. Management, rather than resolution, may be the most feasible approach in the current geopolitical landscape.
