Recruitment Dynamics: Different Levels of Commitment
In the context of recruitment within ideological movements, individuals can be categorized into three distinct groups based on their level of commitment and alignment with party goals. The first group consists of 'hardcore' party members who are fully dedicated, operating under strict party discipline and responding obediently to orders. The second group, known as 'fellow travelers,' shows general sympathy towards the party's objectives but retains some degree of independence and skepticism, avoiding the rigid discipline imposed on hardcore members. The third category includes those referred to as 'naive dupes' or 'useful idiots,' who, while lacking deeper commitment, are leveraged as supporters of the movement. These individuals act as foot soldiers, assisting in furthering the party's aims without fully understanding or agreeing with all aspects of the ideology. In current discussions involving prosecutors and similar figures, they are positioned within the first or second groups, reflecting a deeper engagement than mere ideological naivety.
