Intrinsic Motivation over Extrinsic Rewards
People tend to be less interested in a task if they are doing it for a reward. In a study on kids drinking Kefir, those who were simply asked to taste it maintained or increased their liking for it, while those who were praised or offered movie tickets for drinking it lost interest in it. This decline in interest is attributed to the nature of rewards, where praise is seen as a form of reward, causing a decrease in intrinsic motivation.
