Companies like Atari, Warner Brothers, and Mattel lost billions of dollars of inventory tied up in physical packaged goods. Warner Brothers had to break up Atari and sell it off to appease Wall Street. Coleco and Mattel completely exited the video game business. The industry was decimated and the famous ET Atari game cartridge burial happened in New Mexico. Steven Spielberg was involved in this game's concept.
