Subconscious Mind and Automaticity
Our brains are band limited and cannot control every action consciously. Early on, we consciously learn tasks like typing, but then our brain automates them through basal ganglia and striatum. This automaticity allows us to perform tasks quickly without conscious effort, freeing our consciousness to focus on abstract thoughts. However, memories, especially negative ones, can linger in the subconscious, raising the question of whether it's better to confront and resolve them or ignore them. Generally, our inability to consciously control all memories, except in extreme cases of trauma-induced dissociation, is functional.
