Types of Diabetes: Type 1, Type 2, Gestational, and Rare Forms
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form and occurs when the body doesn't use insulin properly. Type 1.5, known as latent autoimmune diabetes, shares characteristics of both type 1 and type 2. Gestational diabetes affects about 10% of pregnancies and can lead to complications. There are also rare types like monogenic diabetes and cystic fibrosis-related diabetes. Diabetes insipidus causes excessive thirst and urination. Overall, diabetes is a significant health issue and the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S.
