In modern capitalist societies, control is exerted through positive power instead of negative power. People are told they can be anything they want to be, and the responsibility is on them to achieve their goals. This form of control, known as positive power, is more effective than the negativity of should. It's a new form of control where people are constantly striving to maximize their abilities and be productive. Authenticity is promoted as the measure of freedom in these societies.
