Stage Four: Rational Agency
In stage four, you gain a deep understanding of truth and falsehood, and develop agency over your own beliefs. This stage involves discovering epistemology, the rules for determining what's true and false. It's about learning how to think. Thinking is a reflexive process that requires consciousness. Without consciousness, you cannot think. Resonating with others and having empathy can be challenging if you have a different cognitive architecture. Building a shared common ground with others is crucial. Socializing and figuring out how to interface with people who have different architectures is a key part of stage three. Some people may struggle to connect with others until they find like-minded individuals. For the person speaking, it was only in a mathematics school where they finally found their own people to resonate with.
