A chatbot system has shown to outperform human doctors in diagnosing patients across 149 different case scenarios. In a comparison with 20 primary care physicians, the chatbot demonstrated greater diagnostic accuracy and superior performance on various axes according to specialist physicians and patient actors. While it's not a replacement for traditional interactions with primary care physicians, the chatbot's impressive performance showcases a significant technical breakthrough, similar to recent advancements from Google DeepMind. They have developed a self-play-based approach involving an inner self-play loop for simulated dialogue and self-reflection by a doctor agent, linked to an outer self-play loop for training the model through fine-tuning.
